Why coffee makes you feel good

It’s rather common knowledge that coffee is one of the most well used psychoactive drugs of all time. It’s known for increasing health and mood. While coffee does have some legitimate health benefits, coffee also provides consumers with a feeling of euphoria and happiness.
For some, coffee can help improve anxiety. The positive mood enhancements that lie in coffee’s caffeine and its ability to increase feelings of euphoria and energy can lead to helping individuals battling anxiety.
Caffeine assists the brain in the fact that it release dopamine into the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is responsible for mood regulation. It has also been studied that caffeine may also assist storage of dopamine in the amygdala, which is the part of the brain concerned with mood and anxiety regulation. Although caffeine can make someone more energetic, it can also calm others with the feelings of euphoria.
Caffeine also binds to adenosine receptors in the brain. Adenosine is a depressant that works within the nervous system. Its presence promotes sleep and suppresses arousal. Therefore, when caffeine enters here and binds to the receptor’s, adenosine’s affects are decreased and people become positively stimulated.
Therefore, with the release of dopamine, coffee can make us feel good, or even better, if we’re feeling down. Coffee makes us feel good because of its ability to tap into many reward systems that our brain has. Like harder psychoactive drugs, coffee links to our mood, makes us feel good, and keeps us coming back for more.
